The Goo Goo Dolls announced the postponement of their South Africa tour dates in an emotional video recorded from frontman John Rzeznik’s hospital bed Tuesday.
The famous rockstar sat up in the hospital bed while wearing a baseball cap and hospital gown as he apologized to fans and revealed some details surrounding his unexpected illness.
“I’m truly sorry that I cannot be there,” he said in the video shared on Instagram. “I have pneumonia and they checked me into the hospital, and I’m stuck here for a day or two. We’re working on getting back down there as fast as we can, and I will keep you informed about that.”

The tour dates have been rescheduled for March 2025 to allow Rzeznik to fully recover after falling ill.
The 58-year-old famous singer was apologetic, and assured fans he had every intention of making his way back to the stage.
“I’m just really sorry that we couldn’t do this. I apologize that this happened,” he said in the hospital room video.
“We’ll make it up to you guys — thanks for being patient.”

“We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows. This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you,” the Goo Goo Dolls wrote in the caption of the social media post.
“Sadly, my doctor has advised rest and recovery,” the caption continued.
“Thank you for your understanding — we’ll make it worth the wait when we return in March 2025!”

Fans quickly took to the comment section of the band’s Instagram page to assure Rzeznik that they were understanding of the sudden change of plans, and to wish him a full and speedy recovery.
