Police in Albemarle County arrested Grace Pauline Kelley, daughter of country music icon Wynonna Judd, Oct. 27.

The 28-year-old is accused of stealing a Chevrolet Yukon belonging to the Charlottesville-based Ground Zero Church of the Nazarene, according to The Daily Progress.

“It looked to me like she could have been high, like she didn’t really seem like she was completely in her right mind,” pastor Kent Hart told the outlet. Police charged Kelley with seven charges, three felony counts of grand larceny among them. She is currently in custody without bail at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Hart claimed he saw the van as it was being driven away.

“I’m talking to my daughter, and I look out the window and I see the van leaving my house,” he told The Daily Progress. He said he chased the van and found it stopped at the edge of the road with a woman in the driver’s seat.

“I’m like, ‘You stole my van, get out of my van,’ beating on the door,” he said as he recalled the alleged incident.

“And at this point, I see her very clearly. I saw her buzz cut and face tattoo,” Hart told the outlet.

Hart alleged that Kelley fled the scene in the van and he chased her from Rolling Road to Virginia Route 20. He said police officer Corey Legg carried out a traffic stop at Massie Branch Lane, south of Simeon, which brought the ordeal to an end, according to The Daily Progress.

“Grace advised that a male suspect had exited the driver seat and ran into the woods,” Legg put down in a report, according to the outlet. Legg reviewed dashcam footage and said he determined that Kelley had been behind the steering wheel and no one else was inside.

“She began stating she had sold her soul to the devil,” Legg said.

“I advised the jail staff that she may have taken something,” he wrote in his report. “I was later informed that the jail staff observed something inside of Ms. Kelley during her body scan.”

Authorities took Kelley to the University of Virginia Medical Center where it was determined that she just had gas. “but when they conducted Ms. Kelley’s bloodwork, she tested positive for heroin,” Legg wrote, according to The Daily Progress.

Her arrest documents indicate that she has no set address and no known means of income.

Her case will be heard at Albemarle General District Court on Jan. 2, where an attorney from the Office of the Public Defender will represent her, according to The Daily Progress.

Hart does not oppose consequences for Kelley’s alleged actions, but said he hopes that she can obtain some help.

“We devoted an entire service to her,” Hart said.

“We cut the livestream off, and we, as a church, prayed for her and her family,” he told The Daily Progress.

The church has since launched a crowdfunding campaign in an effort to obtain a new van.

Kelley’s list of charges related to this incident include driving without a license, failure to use headlights, destruction of property with intent and setting in motion a vehicle with intent to commit a crime, the Albemarle County Police Department told People. She currently has convictions for driving while intoxicated, evading arrest and methamphetamine production, according to The Daily Progress. Kelley also faces charges in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee, including trespassing, aggravated assault, violation of a no-contact order and several accusations of failure to appear and of probation violations. She was also accused of indecent exposure and “soliciting prostitution” in two separate incidents back in April.

Wynonna has not issued any public comment about this matter.
