Connor Kasin, a high school hockey player in New York, passed away following a “sudden medical event” that he suffered in the middle of a game, according to a school letter sent to parents. He was 17 years old.
Both faculty and students were also sent a letter from Massapequa High School that confirmed the death of the 12th-grader. Kasin’s medical event took place Saturday night.
“It is heartbreaking to report that Connor did not survive. His passing is devastating to the Massapequa community, and we offer our deepest condolences to Connor’s family and friends,” the letter reads, according to News 12 Long Island. In a news release, Nassau County police stated that Kasin collapsed at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center where first responders were sent. Authorities reportedly said that “civilians” were doing CPR prior to police and medical personnel arriving at the scene.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing as of Monday morning.

Kasin was playing for the Sharks Elite Youth Hockey club.
“It is with a heavy heart the Sharks share the sudden passing of 18U defenseman, Connor Kasin. Please keep the Kasin family in your thoughts and prayers,” the team said in a post on Facebook.
